Bubblegum: The Musical!

This is just the beginning. A musical about bubblegum music? How trite! indeed, and that was our challenge -- how to make it chewy.... the book for the musical would have to be a statement about the times: when america grew up -- 1969, when We landed on the moon. bubblegum music on ‘am’ radio was the relief to hendricks and ‘fm’ rock that made us aware of civil rights, war and a lot of heavy stuff. bubblegum music kept kids sane. the only cold war going on for them was rice krispies in the cereal bowl. and girls fought over who would win a date with bobby sherman.

So we set about creating a story about that precious time of innocence -- right before we landed on the moon -- when the moon went from being a symbol of love to a chunk of rock our astronauts brought home -- when ‘am’ music ruled but ‘fm’ was on its heals with anti-establishment rock. the writing team of john schulte, john besmehn, cheryl ann wong and TV veteran writer/producer Fred Fox Jr. were onto something.

this was turning into a big idea. and with that came the need for the perfect music. enter Ron Dante, lead singer of “The Archies.”

capturing the sounds of that amazing transitional time, ron has brought 6 classic bubblegum songs to the project, along with 6 new songs that define the sound for a bold new piece of entertainment -- Bubblegum: The Musical!
